What is Business Process Management (BPM)?
Every business, no matter how big, has core processes that keep that business moving. Sometimes those are centered around activities like processing invoices or payments, onboarding new employees, or even updating an annual compliance document.
Business process management is centered around how any business analyzes the predictable process that make up the core of its business – then taking that information and turning it into an actionable plan to streamline and even automate those processes.

Is BPM like a document management software (DMS)?
Many business processes are centered around some kind of document – sometimes that’s a form, or an invoice, or even a compliance document.
Like some document management software, those documents need to flow through a workflow that routes that document through a process – but the biggest difference comes in the processes that happen beyond the document itself.
A good BPM will incorporate many of the features found in a DMS in order to handle this part of any businesses processes.
Isn't BPM expensive?!
Often, yes. But with Nucleus One, it doesn’t have to be. We’ve taken a different approach that negates the need for expensive IT to handle on-premise software installations on servers that need constant maintenance and upkeep.

Is BPM like project management?
Business process management is focused on repetitive and ongoing processes that follow predictable patterns within an organization.
In contrast, project management tends to be more focused on one-time or unpredictable workflows, or even managing individual tasks that arise out of a project.
Is BPM an integration tool for my existing software?
Some features of a BPM can help by integrating with 3rd party software that your business already uses.
A great example of this is commonly seen in accounting departments that use systems like Quickbooks or Sage.
A good BPM integrates with these system to automate the receipt of invoices and PO’s to help reduce data redundancy and human error with automation and workflows that collect data and input it directly into those 3rd party solutions – all without the need for human interaction.
What BPM features do I need?
Every business is different, but here’s a quick list of some of the most common features found in a good business process management software:
- A Visual Workflow Builder
- Drag-and-Drop Form Designer
- Mobile App or Responsive Design Web App
- Integration & Developer Tools
- Reporting & Analytics
- Access Controls and Auditing
- Document Management Tools
